Body, Speech, Mind – bringing Zen practice to life, Gaia House
"The posture of not knowing, most closely approached the truth” Ch’an Master, Fa-yen.
At the end of April, I went to the Gaia House for a 5 day silent meditation retreat to practice with my teacher Ingeen Breen. He is a Zen priest in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi (author of Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind).
Alongside the principle practice of sitting meditation (in Zen this is known as zazen) we paid attention to: body, in a series of movements coming from Chi Kung, T’ai Chi and Aikido; speech, in a series of meditative vocal exercises and chanting; mind, in zazen and in dialogues that relate practice to our daily lives.
My intention was to capture evocative imaginary that emphasises the empty nature phenomena and the birth-and death states one may experience during the sitting practice.
