Photography + Moving Image
studio shizen
As some of you know, I put my photography on pause for the last three years in order to focus on MA in Buddhist Studies. A big part of me thought I would never get back into it but thanks to my dissertation research, my love for storytelling has been rekindled.
Over the last year I learned that I immensely enjoy combining the format of conducting interviews and photography and I’m now open to commissions evolving around Ecology, Spirituality and Arts. I also decided to open my diary to ethical, sustainable brands that align with my values.
I wanted to work under a name that honours my yearly exploration of Zen Arts. This is how Studio Shizen came to life. Inspired by the Japanese concept of shizen (自然), my work is rooted in naturalness, simplicity, and presence.
In Japanese, shizen (自然) is often translated as „nature” or „natural. It reflects a way of being; one that embraces simplicity, harmony, and the quiet beauty of the natural world. Shizen speaks of the seamless connection between nature and everyday life, inspiring everything from art and design to the way we see and experience the world.
To me beauty lives in the quiet moments; a soft light through leaves, wind whispering between trees, a gentle touch - the everlasting connection between people and the natural world.
